Project Milestones

Memorial Bridge was first proposed to provide a bypass of downtown Parkersburg.

Late 1940’s

Financial planning begins for funding the construction of a new toll bridge in Parkersburg, WV.

1951

Designs for the new proposed bridge were created and submitted. These designs were approved by Parkersburg City Council and the West Virginia State Road Commission.

1952

Construction of the Memorial Bridge begins.

1953

Memorial Bridge construction is finalized and complete.

1954

Memorial Bridge opens to traffic with a pay as you cross manual cash system.

1955

City of Parkersburg assumes ownership, after initial construction bond was paid in full.

2001

City of Parkersburg increases toll rate from $.35 cents to $.50 cents.

2008

United Bridge Partners wins bid to purchase, rehabilitate, operate, and maintain the Memorial Bridge. United Bridge Partners purchases the Memorial Bridge from the City of Parkersburg.

2021

Parkersburg Bridge Partners, a subsidiary of United Bridge Partners closes the Memorial Bridge for construction, modernization, and rehabilitation.

2022

Memorial Bridge is officially reopened to both passenger and commercial traffic. The MOVPASS system and electronic tolling are implemented.

2023

MOVPASS becomes compatible with EZPASS systems.
